Frage:
zielgerecht
von Windfall (GB), Last modified: 2017-08-11, 14:56  Spam?
Is "zielgerecht" the same as "zielgerichtet" or does it mean something else? In a reference, I need to translate
"Er erfüllte seine Aufgaben stets zielgerecht"
I'm currently thinking something along the lines of:
"He always carried out his work in a manner geared to his targets"
I'd be grateful for any improvements or explanations to help me find a better translation.

In my opinion "zielgerecht" and "zielgerichtet" wouldn't translate to the same thing.
I would translate"Zielgerecht" to something like "as expected/according to his targets", meaning that he does his work in a way that it fulfills his targets, and "zielgerichtet" to something like "target oriented", describing the way he approaches his work.

Thanks, Marci77. In that case, I think I'll update my translation to:
"He always carried out his work in a manner that fulfilled his targets"
If anyone has any better suggestions for how to make it sound more like natural English, that would be great.

It's a euphemism for lazyness, though.  #876202

Possibly:
He has always completed his work in accordance with his assigned objectives (or targets, or goals).

Thanks, timfefe
This is the reference of someone who is a manager and a high flyer. In this case, I don't think "He has always completed his work in accordance with his assigned objectives (or targets, or goals)." sounds right for someone at this level, but it does sound like a good option for someone at a lower, less managerial level, especially if this is intended to convey "we were hoping for more".

Didn't realise this was for a high flying mgr.
Possibly:
Under his leadership, the <name of some business unit or department> has always achieved (or exceeded) its commercial targets and corporate/departmental objectives.

And now I've gor to fly...

It's quite some time since I last wrote a reference but I'd read it he has always gone about achieving his targets without being distracted or taking roundabout ways.
